The Parish Choir’s participation at Mass is very important to the liturgy and comes with its own reward “Those who sing pray twice”. Raheny has been blessed with a dedicated choir and musical directors over the past decades. The members had a common interest in music and a deep concern for one another. They turned up every Monday night for rehearsal, rain or shine and gave of their best every Sunday morning.
The support and appreciation from the parishioners was a great source of encouragement. It was a privilege to sing at the ordinations and first masses of a number of young men from the parish. One of our treasured memories will be of the day spent at “Sli an Chroi” Kiltegan under the guidance of Fr. Seamus Whitney a Kiltegan Father. This day was proof of the feeling of oneness between the members and a day to remember.
A number of the members of the choir have moved on to their eternal rest where they are now, no doubt, part of the heavenly choir. We remember them with fondness, also the former musical directors, Mrs. Cahill, Mr. McElroy, Matt White and the energetic Patti O’Donohue.
The choir is now ably directed by David Doyle who continues the wonderful tradition of presenting beautiful music in our church liturgies.
